As a strategic partner to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), ROM Governors plays a crucial role in advancing ROM’s mission through dynamic fundraising and donor relations.

POSITION SUMMARY : Reporting to the Vice President, Donor Engagement & Experience, the Director, Annual Giving is a key figure in ROM Governors’ fundraising strategy.

This role is central to growing our Annual Fund portfolio, involving strategic development, management, and delivery of our annual giving programs.

The role also focuses on developing and executing the donor journey for all Annual Fund segments. The ideal candidate is an experienced fundraising professional and an innovator with a track record in expanding Annual Giving portfolios.

They should have a thorough understanding of annual giving best practices, market dynamics, CRM practices, analytics, and digital marketing.

The Director, Annual Giving will be a senior member of the Donor Experience & Engagement team, significantly contributing to our fundraising campaign to support ROM’s priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES : Lead ROM Governors Annual Giving Portfolio : Build and manage the Annual Giving portfolio to achieve financial and fundraising goals as outlined in the annual plan.

Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy based on a deep understanding of annual giving practices, charitable landscape dynamics, and donor journey expertise.

Craft and implement CRM strategies, including segmentation, developing donor journeys, and list maintenance. Oversee e-solicitation deployment, including testing, analysis, measurement, and reporting.

Represent Governors internally and externally, interacting with ROM Executive, government officials, donors, and patrons.

Manage and develop the annual giving budgets. Create and Steward Cross-Departmental Relationships : Establish and maintain effective relationships with ROM and ROM Governors stakeholders to ensure brand alignment, optimized appeal timing, and strategic alignment.

As an experienced leader and relationship manager, enhance and sustain rapport with various complex departments. Identify, Engage and Lead External Committees and Agencies : Significantly manage and coordinate with external agencies and consultants to support campaign development and execution.

Lead these cross-functional groups with clear communication, defined roles, and effective project management. QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES : Extensive Experience in Annual Giving : Minimum of six years of progressive experience in leading Annual Giving portfolios and campaigns.

Educational Background : University degree in a relevant field such as fundraising, or equivalent experience. Technical Expertise : Knowledge and experience with fundraising software like Raiser’s Edge, RE NXT, CRM platforms like MailChimp, and web analytics tools such as Google Analytics.

Strategic and Creative Thinking : Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, and planning, combined with exceptional organizational and project management skills.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills : Exceptional interpersonal skills and professional presence necessary for effective interaction with various stakeholders.

Proven oral and written communication skills. Leadership and Management Skills : Experience in managing multiple partners, both internal and external, towards project goals and deadlines.

Resourcefulness and Independence : Ability to manage diverse assignments efficiently, meeting multiple deadlines with attention to detail and consistent follow-through.

Familiarity with AI applications like ChatGPT is an asset. Flexible Schedule : Availability for after-hours events and meetings.
